Families First Program

Families First wants to help families in West Tennessee get on the path to well-paying jobs, physical and mental wellness, and financial stability. Through Families First, adults receive training to become certified software developers and support to begin their new careers. Children in the family between the ages of 9-18 can also learn important technology and life skills, empowering them to become educated, engaged young adults. Are You Eligible for Families First?

Families first participants
To qualify for the Families First Program You Must:
  • Live in West Tennessee
  • Be justice-involved, justice impacted, or low income
    • Justice involved: a person having contact or interaction with the criminal justice system, primarily through police, courts, or the corrections system.
    • Justice impacted: a person who is legally, economically, or personally affected in a negative way by the incarceration of a close relative.
  • Have at least one child under 18 years of age
    • “Child” or “Children” means a person or persons under 18 years of age, or a person who has not reached their 19th birthday and who is a full time student expected to graduate by their 19th birthday.
  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent
Time Commitment:
  • In order to receive the benefits of Families First, adults will need to be willing to commit to four training sessions per week as well as independent study time.
  • Youth involved in Families First must be willing to participate in activities at least two afternoons/evenings per week.

  • Be designated as “low income” 
  • Have at least one adult and one child (between the ages of 9-18) in the family willing to participate
  • Time Commitment: 
    In order to receive the benefits of Families First, adults will need to be willing to commit to four training sessions per week as well as independent study time. Youth involved in Families First must be willing to participate in activities at least two afternoons/evenings per week.

A very special program for qualifying adults and their families focusing on youth age 9-18. Families First is funded in part by the Tennessee Department of Human Services. The family must reside in one of these West Tennessee counties to qualify:

  • Weekly coding classes for ages 9-18
  • Pro-Social activities
  • Group alcohol/drug and crime prevention activities
  • Career readiness and life skills training
  • Referrals and linkages to community services
  • Group therapy as needed, with a focus on trauma
  • Internships, summer employment, job placement support, etc.
  • Case Management
  • Family socialization assistance
  • Excellence and Leadership courses and tools
  • Lunch and Learn activities: celebrations, program advocacy, advisory, etc.
  • Family therapy as needed
  • Wrap-around services
  • Referrals to community services
  • 12-month Technology classes
  • Job placement support
  • Wrap around services
  • Referrals to community services
  • Career Readiness and Life Skills training
  • Financial education and support
  • Targeted psycho-education for justice-involved population and Life Skills Groups
